February Volunteer Opportunities

We need YOUYou can help with greeting and signing-in participants at Let's Move! Saturdays events in February.  You'll be paired up with a seasoned Let's Move! Saturdays volunteer to facilitate event sign-in for the duration of each event.  

  • Feb 4, 1:30-4:00pm and 7-9pm: Watson Rolladium (Open Skate)
  • Feb 11, 8-10am: Club 7 Fitness (Fitness activities)
  • Feb 18, 11am-12noon, 12noon-5:00pm: Blue Springs Family Y (Family Class, open swim from 12noon-5:00pm)
  • Feb 25, 10:30am-12noon: Gage Center (Tumbling Activities for children)

If you are interested in volunteering for any of these events, please reply to this email or contact Renee Parks at (816) 478-4500 -- preferrably at least one week in advance of the event.  Thank you!

Blue Springs Parks & Rec Upcoming Holiday Season Special Events

Holiday Express Train Wed. Dec 21, 4 pm – 7 pm. Main Street RR crossing at 12th downtown Blue Springs. Free. Santa Claus in a KCS six car lighted & decorated train.

Chipping of the Green, Christmas Tree Recycling Program Dec 26 – Jan 15. Drop off location is Pink Hill Park, 2715 NW Park Road. Safe & environmentally friendly way to dispose of your Christmas tree.

New Years Eve Party at Vesper Hall Sat. Dec 31, 7:30 pm.  $10 in advance. The party, hosted by BSP&R Dept staff, is geared to adults ages 50 and over but all welcome.

Chili Dog Dinner & Silent Auction Sat. Jan 21, 5:30 - 7 pm. Vesper Hall.  $6 adult, $4 age 12 & under, 3 & under free. This is a fund-raiser for the Blue Springs Dog Park


Blue Springs First Time Home Buyer (FTHB) Program

Program Description
This program is a collaborative effort between the City of Blue Springs and area mortgage lenders to bring home ownership within reach of low to moderate income families and individuals who are first time homebuyers by disbursing annual Community Development Block Grant Entitlement funds through the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). A description of the main components, the principal participants and their roles are shown below.

Blue Springs CDBG Minor Home Repair Program 2012–Accepting Applications

The Community Development Department will begin accepting applications for the Minor Home Repair Program on Tuesday, November 1st.  We will accept applications through Friday, January 28, 2012.  The emphasis of this program is on neighborhood conservation, and only minor exterior home repairs are eligible.  For more information about the program, eligibility and the application form please visit http://www.bluespringsgov.com/mhrp or contact Lauren Gowdy at 220-4504.
