The summer is flying by in Blue Springs. It is hard to believe that the July 4th celebration has passed again. I hope you and your family had the opportunity to view our city’s traditional fireworks display on Friday evening. Wanda and I were visiting friends in Seattle, so we were unable to attend this year. When we returned on Saturday we found our neighbors out cleaning up after the previous evening’s festivities. I compliment our neighborhood for being so responsible and returning our streets and yards to their original condition so quickly.

I continue to receive email regarding the need for a recycling center in Blue Springs. A recent email from a District 1 resident is posted on the AboutBlueSprings.com website for your consideration. Please leave your comments at http://www.aboutbluesprings.com/post/2008/07/District-1-Resident-Interested-in-Recycling.aspx. I am interested in hearing your thoughts regarding this important topic.

Following is a press release from the Blue Springs Historical Society:

Additional information is available at http://www.aboutbluesprings.com/post/2008/07/Blue-Springs-Historical-Society-Quilt-Show.aspx.

clip_image004There is a new sandwich shop coming soon to Blue Springs. The shop’s name is Jimmy John’s and will be located in the new addition south of the Parker Center strip mall on 7 Highway on the former location of Texas Tom’s in Blue Springs. Information about the Jimmy John’s franchise can be found at: http://www.jimmyjohns.com.

If you are interested in the progress of our City’s Multi-Family Task force, videos of the meetings are being posted on the AboutBlueSprings.com website. The first two meetings are available for viewing at: http://www.aboutbluesprings.com/post/2008/06/Multi-Family-Task-Force---First-Meeting-Video.aspx and http://www.aboutbluesprings.com/post/2008/06/Multi-Family-Task-Force---First-Meeting-Video.aspx.

clip_image006Many of our residents would like to see the K-Mart building at 40 and 7 Highways redeveloped.  For many years nothing could be done because the building was tied up in K-Mart's bankruptcy proceedings.  A little over a year ago the K-Mart property was acquired by Tri-Land Properties.  They are in discussions with the city regarding redeveloping the K-Mart.  While not yet approved, it is exciting to see some activity beginning to happen with this long vacant property.  More information about this project is available at: http://www.aboutbluesprings.com/post/2008/06/KMart-Redevelopment-Proposal.aspx.

clip_image008The City will soon be considering a new mixed use office development on Adams Dairy Parkway called Parkway Place Center. Parkway Place is a 15 acre mixed use development planned for the west side of Adams Dairy Parkway and just south of RD Mize Road.  The mixed use project will consist of seven lots designed to support up to 101,800 sq ft of retail, restaurant, and office space.  The signature buildings planned for the development are two 32,910 sq ft buildings, with 10,900 sq ft of retail space available on the first floors and 22,010 sq ft of class "A" office space on the 2nd and 3rd floors of each of the mixed use buildings.  The press release regarding this development can be viewed at: http://www.aboutbluesprings.com/post/2008/06/Parkway-Place-Center---New-Offices-on-the-Parkway.aspx.
