Today, July 26 2008, I was invited to join our local firefighters to help distribute information door to door regarding the Central Jackson County Fire Protection District's (CJCFPD) two Questions on the August 5th election ballots. Having been a satisfied recipient of their services at my home three times in my twenty-four years as a Blue Springs resident, I was happy to help out.
Their first visit to my home was due to a carbon monoxide detector going off. It was a false alarm and I was a little embarrassed. Our firefighters reminded me that it was better to be safe than sorry and they were happy to oblige.
A year or two later our carbon monoxide detector went off again as we were preparing for a Sunday afternoon nap. Once again our firefighters responded promptly. This time our house was full of carbon monoxide from a faulty water heater. I credit our
fire department with saving my family's lives that day.
Finally, a few years back one of my daughters had a medical emergency while home alone. Our firefighters responded to her 911 call and provided prompt and necessary care as well as transport to St Mary's hospital. The bottom line is that I am thankful for the excellent job done by CJCFPD's firefighters. They have made a difference in my family's lives!
I have to say it was good to be back out walking our neighborhoods and visiting with residents again. It was a hot day, but the reception at the door steps of our neighborhoods was warm and friendly. Thank you to those of you who provided ice water to help make the walk cooler and enjoyable.
To make sure our firefighters have the equipment they need to do their jobs and the funding to adequately staff our fire stations, I encourage you to vote YES on both of these important ballot questions.
