Blue Springs Art Commission Announces 2009 Call to Artists
"Serendipity" will be the Fourth Annual Temporary Art Exhibit in Blue Springs

Blue Springs, Mo. - The Blue Springs Public Art Commission has announced its Call to Artists for the 2009 Temporary Art Exhibit in Blue Springs, Missouri. This year's art exhibit is entitled "Serendipity" and will be open to the public from April 1, 2009 through September 30, 2009. This is the fourth year the Art Commission has offered the temporary exhibit.

This year's exhibit will be located on the grounds of St. Mary's Medical Center in Blue Springs. Public Art Commission Chair, Eleanor Frasier said "the Commission selected this particular site as medical care and hospitals often times have significant importance in the community.specifically, a relationship to the arts."

The exhibit will utilize public access areas in and around the St. Mary's Medical Center campus, and perhaps one piece in the interior entry. Four artists will be selected to provide a work of art for the six-month temporary exhibit. Frasier added, "the artwork should be unique and original, not a copy or limited edition."

This Call to Artists is open to all professional artists over the age of eighteen (18). Emerging and professional artists are encouraged to apply. Artists working in a wide variety of media and forms will be considered. Such media include, but are not limited to bronze, stone, textiles, paint, wood, metal, and still and video photography. It is suggested that the artwork relate to the definition of "Serendipity" or how the term relates to the community of Blue Springs, or the medical field. For more information about the 2009 Call to Artists or the "Serendipity" Temporary Art Exhibit, call (816) 228-0137 or visit www.bluespringsgov.com/serendipity.
