Conductor’s Letter

Dear Friends,

The 2010-2011 season marks our 66th year of performing great
concerts in Jackson County. We have exciting concerts in store
for you that I know you will not want to miss.

We are looking forward to partnering with the Metropolitan
Chorale of Kansas City for our first concert. The major work
on that program will be Mozart’s incredibly beautiful Requiem,
presented in the lovely space of the Community of Christ Temple.

In December we will hold our traditional Holiday Pops concert,
featuring the talented singers of the Delta Woods Honor Choir.
Please join us for this family-friendly concert of holiday favorites
at Blue Springs High School.

The March concert will feature a wide variety of Memorable
Marches—everything from Elgar’s Pomp and Circumstance No. 1
to the Imperial March from Star Wars. We are pleased to return
to Tri-City Ministries for this upbeat performance.

The season will conclude in May with the Young Artists’
Concert. The orchestra, together with the Kansas City Music
Teachers Association, hosts a yearly competition for high
school musicians. The winners of this competition are awarded
a scholarship and are invited to appear as a soloist with the
orchestra. We have been impressed by amazing young talent in
the past, and I am certain that this year will be no different.

Finally and quite notably, we are pleased to announce a return to
free admission for our concerts! We are doing this in an effort
to make our concerts accessible to everyone.
The success of this
ambitious goal depends on assistance from loyal supporters like
you. Please help by sending in your tax deductible donation
today.

I look forward to seeing you soon,

James Murray III
Music Director & Conductor
