Copper Thieves Strike Hidden Valley Park Softball Fields

Blue Springs, Mo. – On Monday, May 16, 2011, at about 9:00 a.m., City of Blue Springs Parks & Recreation employees discovered that sometime over the weekend of May 13th through May 16th copper thieves caused property damage and stole a substantial amount of copper wiring from Hidden Valley Park, 6500 NW Valleyview Road.

Blue Springs Parks & Recreation determined that the unknown suspect(s) pried open 26 light fixtures and stole the underground copper used to illuminate several softball fields and the parking lot. At this point, the cost to the City in property damage and stolen wiring is unknown, however is considered significant.

The Blue Springs Police Department Investigations Bureau is currently investigating the incident to attempt to identify and prosecute the individuals responsible.
